To Boldly Go…

Just thinking about theclaim in the Star Trek TNG opening – “To boldly go where no one has gone before.” Something that they never showed at any time during the entire series. There was not one show where someone hadn’t got there before them. Of course it would have been a boring show if they had actually shown them going somewhere that no one had gone before since a completely empty plane with nothing on it but the visiting crew or completely empty space with nothing in it except the ship and crew would have made for a really boring show.

The original show had the slightly more meaningful “To boldly go where no man has gone before.” They actually did that in some of the shows where the ship went beyond anywhere that humans had previously travelled and met up with new aliens who had got there before them. Of course in the original show while they occasionally went where no man had gone before they never went where no one had gone before since of course that would make for a really boring show.

Whoever decided to change that saying obviously didn’t understand the intent of the show or they wouldn’t have changed the saying to one that was so bigotted and discriminatory when the show was so much the exact opposite.
