Watch Problems

One of the gifts I received at Christmas was a new watch. The reason I am mentioning it is because that watch has a rather unusual behaviour which has now resulted in the store sending it back to the manufacturer to be checked out under warranty to figure out what is wrong with it.

The thing is that the watch keeps perfect time provided that I am not wearing it. If I wear it for say ten hours then at the end of that time it will be running somewhere between five and ten minutes slow. Since it doesn’t keep accurate time when I wear it the watch is useless to me which is why it has been returned to the store. The only problem is that since it only became inaccurate in its time keeping when I am wearing it I don’t know how the manufacturer is going to work out what is wrong since the store didn’t send me to the manufacturer with the watch so that the problem can be reproduced and of course if you can’t reproduce a problem you can’t fix it.

The annoying thing is that I now need to wait about four to six weeks for the watch to be examined and returned and there will still be no guarantee that it will work any differently when I get it back. The only hope is that there is actually something wrong with the watch that the manufacturer can readily identify and fix that is not dependent on my wearing the watch for it to show itself.
