Internet Explorer 8

Just been reading something that said that there are government departments paying Microsoft for IE8 support. Presumably these are only being used in-house given that they are obviously not paying all the web site owners to ensure that sites continue to support IE8. Given that the code to support IE8 differs significantly from that used by more modern browsers (particularly with respect to JavaScript/jScript) it costs significantly more to fully support IE8 than it does to just support more modern browsers and simply lump IE8 in with Netscape 1 and other browsers that just don’t support all the modern code
